Tossing aside an attempt by R. Kelly to win pretrial release based on his alleged “unique risks” for contracting COVID-19 because he is prediabetic, a federal judge presiding over the onetime pop star’s New York criminal charges wrote on Friday that “the CDC has identified diabetes as a risk factor for COVID-19, the same is not true for prediabetes.”

“I do not agree that a diagnosis of prediabetes presents a compelling reason for the defendant’s [Kelly’s] release,” wrote Judge Ann Donnelly of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York in a nine-page order rejecting the internationally known singer’s latest try at gaining freedom before trial.
