A New York appeals court has overturned a defendant’s conviction for attempted murder and related charges because a juror in the case sought to develop a romantic relationship with one of the prosecution’s witnesses.

A panel of the New York Supreme Court’s Appellate Division, First Department vacated Tysheem McGregor’s convictions on charges of attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and conspiracy in the second and fourth degrees.
