The large LED-lit billboards started floating along the Hudson and East Rivers on a barge last October, sparking a flood of citizen complaints about the eyesore, a raft of irate tweets, a new state law, and a federal lawsuit launched by New York City in March.

Now, the city has announced that, under a lawsuit settlement arrived at by consent decree, the electronic billboards displaying brightly lit ads for movies, beer and a bunch of other things will be no more.
