The New York City Bar Association on Thursday publicly applauded the state Legislature’s passing this week of a ban on most cat declawing, calling the procedures—when done for nonmedical reasons—“typically unnecessary and inhumane” and “roughly comparable” to amputating a person’s fingers at the last joint.
