Robert Haig’s tribute published in the May 16 New York Law Journal under Fondly Remembering Justice Ira Gammerman captures the essence of late justice’s many contributions to our esteemed trial bench, magnificently. I would like to add one more contribution: Justice Gammerman’s more than twenty-five years in which he was a dominating force on the Pattern Jury Instructions Committee. As Tom Moore and I both noted at the memorial service, Justice Gammerman’s work on that Committee provided trial judges and lawyers clear guidance in the development of civil trial law in New York, for which we should all be very grateful.
