The New York City Police Department has named Ernest Hart, a state Supreme Court justice sitting in Queens, as its new chief legal officer, the department announced Thursday.
Hart, who previously sat on the bench in the New York City Criminal Court, was admitted to practice in New York in 1984 after obtaining his J.D. from Villanova University’s Charles Widger School of Law. He began his legal career as a prosecutor for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and has served as chair of the city’s Civilian Complaint Review Board.
