Sprint Communications has agreed to pay $330 million as part of a settlement over litigation brought by a whistleblower and the New York Attorney General’s Office over the company’s failure to collect and transfer local sales tax on certain cellphone plans sold in New York.

The settlement, according to the Attorney General’s Office, is the largest-ever recovery from a company by a single state in an action brought under a state false claims act. The litigation was brought under the New York False Claims Act.
