When Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. announced in 2014 that the court would move toward electronic filing of documents and free online access, he cautioned that the judiciary does not hurry into uncharted waters. “The courts will often choose to be late to the harvest of American ingenuity,” he said. Electronic filing finally launched in November 2017, and practitioners are looking forward to easier access to court files, as they’ve had for years in lower courts. For now, official filings will still be on paper.
