Jeh Johnson: U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson in Washington ruled in July that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson would not have to testify in a civil lawsuit rooted in the David Petraeus sex scandal. Jill Kelley and her husband Scott Kelley accused the U.S. Department of Defense and other agencies of sharing their private information with the media as the Petraeus scandal unfolded. They wanted Johnson to testify about events that took place when he was general counsel to the Defense Department. Jackson said the Kelleys failed to show that Johnson had special knowledge that they couldn’t get elsewhere.
Sally Jewell: The U.S. Department of Justice this year asked U.S. District Judge Lee West in Oklahoma to block the deposition of Interior Secretary Sally Jewell. Lawyers for the Choctaw Nation and Chickasaw Nation wanted to question Jewell about the department’s management of Native American trust assets. The deposition fight was never resolved, and the case settled last month.
