Goodwin Procter (Boston): Abim Thomas joins the firm’s securities litigation and white-collar defense group, and its gaming, gambling and sweepstakes practice, as counsel to the Boston office. Thomas will focus on online and brick-and-mortar casino gambling issues. Previously, Thomas was deputy chief legal counsel to Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.
King & Spalding (Atlanta): Judy O’Brien joins the firm’s corporate practice group as partner in the Redwood Shores, Calif., office and will focus on private equity and venture-capital investments, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and securities and regulatory issues. Previously, O’Brien was founder, principal and sole proprietor of Laurel Advisors.
Quarles & Brady (Milwaukee): Stanley Orszula joins the firm’s corporate services practice group as partner in the Chicago office and will focus on representing financial institutions. Previously, Orszula was counsel for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
Shutts & Bowen (Miami): François Henriquez joins the firm’s financial services industry practice group as of counsel to the Miami office and will focus on financial industry regulation matters. Previously, Henriquez was president and chief executive officer of U.S. Central Federal Credit Union.
Barnes & Thornburg (Indianapolis): David Ritter joins the firm’s labor and employment law department as partner in the Chicago office and will focus on companies in service and manufacturing industries. Previously, Ritter was a partner at Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg.
Carlton Fields (Tampa, Fla.): Charles Sharbaugh joins the firm’s real estate and finance practice group as partner in the Atlanta office and will focus on representing private-equity funds in acquisitions, dispositions and joint ventures with respect to real estate assets. Previously, Sharbaugh was a partner at Paul Hastings.
K&L Gates: Donald Bingham joins the firm’s finance practice as partner in the Chicago office and will focus on commercial lending and intellectual property finance. Previously, Bingham was a partner at Sidley Austin.
Latham & Watkins: Jean-Philippe Brisson joins the firm’s air quality and climate-change practice group as vice chairman in the New York office. Brisson will focus on advising oil and gas companies and financial services firms on environmental matters. Previously, he was a partner at Linklaters.
Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker (New York): Joe Coppedge and Douglas Rowan join the firm’s Las Vegas office as of counsel. Coppedge joins the firm’s commercial and business litigation and its general liability and casualty practices and will focus on commercial, construction and insurance defense. Rowan joins the firm’s alternative dispute resolution, commercial and business litigation, general liability and casualty and insurance-coverage practices and will focus on business disputes. Previously, Coppedge was of counsel to Shea & Carlyon and Rowan was of counsel to Atkin Winner & Sherrod.
