Schiff Hardin, which has 400 attorneys, is not in the market for a merger, said managing partner Ron Safer. Not maintaining offices in places such as Hong Kong and Paris helps the firm keep down costs � and its billing rates. Still, other midsize firms are open to mulling merger options.
