The U.S. Department of Justice and 10 state attorneys general filed an amended complaint Tuesday accusing real estate companies of inflating rental apartment pricing in violation of federal antitrust laws.

“RealPage is an algorithmic intermediary that collects, combines, and exploits landlords’ competitively sensitive information,” attorneys wrote in the 161-page amended complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina. “And in so doing, it enriches itself and compliant landlords, including Defendant Landlords, at the expense of renters who pay inflated prices and honest businesses that would otherwise compete.”
