As the end of his term nears, President Joe Biden has announced two federal trial court nominees for New York and Guam, as progressive groups push the Senate to vote on his remaining judicial picks.

Tali Farhadian Weinstein, of counsel at the litigation boutique Hecker Fink, was picked for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Farhadian Weinstein, a former law clerk to Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, made an unsuccessful run for Manhattan district attorney in 2021 before joining Hecker Fink.

She served as general counsel of the Office of the District Attorney for Kings County, New York, from 2018 to 2020. Farhadian Weinstein also served as counsel to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and has worked as a federal prosecutor in the Eastern District of New York.

In addition, Farhadian Weinstein clerked for then-Judge Merrick Garland of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia after graduating from Yale Law School in 2003.

Biden also renominated Chief Judge Frances Tydingco-Gatewood for a seat on the District Court of Guam, where she has served since being appointed to the court in 2006 by former President George Bush.

The District Court of Guam is a territorial court and judges serve 10-year terms. Former President Barack Obama renominated Tydingco-Gatewood for a second term in 2016, but the Senate did not act on the nomination.

President-elect Donald Trump named someone to fill the vacancy in late November 2020, but the nomination did not move forward during Biden’s presidency and Tydingco-Gatewood has continued to serve.
