The Federal Trade Commission’s lawsuit against Kroger’s $24.6 billion bid to acquire Albertsons is in keeping with the agency’s new merger guidelines’ emphasis on ensuring the well-being of workers, antitrust attorneys said in the wake of Monday’s court filing.

The FTC, with eight states and the District of Columbia, filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, claiming the merger would lead to higher consumers prices and limit workers’ ability to seek higher wages and better benefits.
