The U.S. Judiciary’s Advisory Committee on Criminal Rules plans to reexamine the federal courts’ ban on broadcasting criminal proceedings, but don’t expect any change to come in time for Donald Trump’s trials, committee members said Thursday.

It’s very unlikely that Rule 53, which prohibits broadcasting federal criminal proceedings, could be amended in time to allow trials against the former president to be aired publicly. Lawmakers and the media have pushed for an amendment that would allow exceptions to Rule 53 for high-profile cases of public interest.
