Florida’s attorney general asked the U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday to reinstate a new state law that cracks down on drag shows attended by children, a statute a federal district judge has struck down as likely unconstitutional.

Florida’s Protection of Children Act, signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis in May,  states that businesses which let children attend “lewd” drag shows can lose their licenses and even face criminal prosecution. In June, U.S. District Judge Gregory Presnell issued a statewide injunction against the law after it was challenged by Hamburger Mary’s, an Orlando restaurant that hosts what it calls “family friendly” drag shows.
