The U.S. Supreme Court has delivered a clear reminder to the U.S. solicitor general: Just because we ask for your views doesn’t mean we have to listen to them. 

The high court on Friday announced it had granted review in a case about whether federal banking law trumps state laws requiring national banks to pay mortgage borrowers interest on escrow funds. Thirteen states require such interest payments from banks, which hold billions of dollars in escrow to service property taxes and insurance premiums.
