U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler on Tuesday defended his agency’s proposed rule requiring companies to report any climate-related risks and disclose information on their greenhouse gas emissions. 

“The core principles of the U.S. securities market regulation have contributed to economic success,” Gensler told the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. “We’re updating our rules to promote efficiency, integrity, and resiliency in the market.”
