After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned precedent protecting the right to an abortion nationwide, Illinois Circuit Court Judge Elizabeth Rochford saw increased interest in the upcoming election for one of the state’s open Supreme Court seats that she’s running for.

Rochford, a Democratic candidate, said that renewed attention has given candidates an opportunity to educate the public on the function of courts in democracy.
