Meta Platforms said it didn’t realize Nebraska authorities were investigating “a decision to have an abortion” when it turned over a teenager’s Facebook messages, data that led to criminal charges alleging that the girl illegally obtained an abortion.

Forbes noted in an article Monday that Meta had turned over the messages to law enforcement. A Meta spokesperson late Tuesday told Law.com that the company provided the information in early June, before the U.S. Supreme Court issued its Dobbs opinion overturning the constitutional right to an abortion.
