Attorneys for Purdue Pharma and parties favoring its $4.3 billion bankruptcy settlement on Friday urged the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit to reverse the district court’s ruling vacating the deal, arguing that the liability release for the Sackler family were appropriate and well-tailored.

U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon of the Southern District of New York vacated the settlement in December, finding that the liability release was not authorized by the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The case was briefed in the Second Circuit on an expedited basis.
