A divided U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a Texas abortion clinic’s final attempt to have its challenge to the state’s six-week abortion ban sent back to the federal trial court where it began.

The court, in an order with three justices vigorously dissenting, denied the petition for a writ of mandamus by the abortion providers in In re Whole Woman’s Health. A writ of mandamus is an extraordinary remedy used when there are no adequate means to enforce rights.
