A federal judge on Thursday had tough questions for former President Donald Trump’s lawyer about a bid to block White House records from a congressional investigation into Jan. 6, a sign that she’ll rule against the former president.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan of the District of Columbia grilled Trump lawyer Justin Clark about whether she could overrule President Joe Biden’s declination to assert executive privilege over the documents sought by the Jan. 6 select committee. She pointed repeatedly to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Nixon v. GSA, which found that a former president can raise privilege issues but a current president is best suited to make the final privilege decision.
