For Winston & Strawn associate Brett Waters, the fact that thousands of military veterans leave the United States every year to avail themselves of psychedelic-assisted therapy to treat PTSD and addiction hits close to home.

His grandfather, a World War II veteran who suffered physical and psychological wounds when his plane was shot down in the South Pacific, died by suicide when Waters was a child. And several years ago, in Waters’ first year at Winston & Strawn, his mother followed in the path of her father and took her own life.
