Senior Judge Carlos Bea is facing heat for his plan to accept an award at a conservative think tank’s event where John Eastman, a former law professor who spoke at the Jan. 6 rally preceding the Capitol Hill riot, will give opening remarks and speak on a panel about “election integrity.”

On Saturday, Bea—who sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit—is set to receive the Reagan Jurisprudence Award from the Claremont Institute following a speech by Eastman, the founding director of the institute’s Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence. Despite criticism from some about his attendance, the judge said this week that he still plans to attend the event.
