Virginia’s Democratic senators on Monday announced their recommendations for a seat on the all-white Western District of Virginia, including the district’s current federal defender and magistrate judge who has sat on the court for nearly a decade.

Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner said they were recommending Magistrate Judge Robert Ballou as well as Juval Scott, the current federal public defender for the Western District of Virginia, for the vacancy in the court’s Abingdon division.
