Lawmakers in Congress have introduced sweeping legislation aimed at protecting federal judiciary staff from misconduct including sexual harassment and discrimination, a move that comes amid an effort to draw attention to those issues within federal courts.
The bill, titled the Judiciary Accountability Act, was introduced Thursday in both the House and Senate. It would prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, race, sex, national origin, age or disability, and offer pathways for federal court staff to seek remedies for any of those violations. While those protections are offered to other federal government staff, they do not currently apply to those working in the courts.
