A Winston & Strawn partner withdrew from a sanctions case representing Emily Newman, one of the lawyers who tried to overturn last year’s presidential election results in the so-called “Kraken” litigation. In a statement Thursday, the firm said it “will no longer have any role in the matter.”

U.S. District Judge Linda Parker of the Eastern District of Michigan signed a stipulated order Thursday King v. Whitmer for the withdrawal of Thomas Buchanan, a Winston partner who is co-head of the firm’s Foreign Corrupt Practices Act group. Parker agreed to have Timothy Galligan, a solo practitioner from Clarkston, Michigan, become Newman’s newest attorney.
