Two of Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer’s most recent decisions offer proof that at age 82, he is still “at the top of his game,” according to mediation lawyer Kenneth Feinberg, Breyer’s longtime friend.

In California v. Texas, handed down June 17, seven of the nine justices, including Breyer, joined to salvage the Affordable Care Act on the issue of standing. And in Mahanoy Area School District v. B.L., released June 23, Breyer forged an 8-1 majority by adeptly balancing freedom of speech for students with the regulatory role of public school officials.
