Philadelphia attorney Michael van der Veen, who represented former President Donald Trump during his second impeachment trial, said he plans to resign from the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association as a rift appeared to emerge between the professional organization and van der Veen, who helped to secure acquittal for Trump.

The move comes after numerous attorneys in the Philadelphia trial bar have expressed concerns about van der Veen’s role in representing Trump at the same time as holding the position of treasurer for the group, which is a professional organization of civil attorneys who focus on representing plaintiffs. Often PTLA members who serve as treasurer go on to hold the role of president some years later.
