The Senate voted Saturday to acquit former President Donald Trump of inciting the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, an expected conclusion to the second impeachment trial for the former president.
The 57-43 vote had a majority of senators voting against Trump but fell short of the two-thirds majority required for a conviction, which would have allowed the Senate to ban Trump from holding federal office in the future.
