Bruce Castor had a tough act to follow. The defense attorney for former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial was set to speak after the House managers debuted their arguments, in which they used jarring video to reconstruct the events of Jan. 6. Their presentation ended with lead manager Rep. Jamie Raskin emotionally recalling how his family members hid from rioters in the Capitol that day, one day after he buried his son.

Castor began by acknowledging Raskin’s account, and the traumatic events of the Capitol riots. “You will not hear any member of the team representing former President Trump say anything but in the strongest possible way denounce the violence of the rioters and those that breached the Capitol,” the attorney said.
