President-elect Joe Biden has selected Judge Merrick Garland of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit as his pick to be the next attorney general, according to multiple reports.

If confirmed by the Senate, Garland would take over a Justice Department that has faced charges of politicization under Trump and Attorney General William Barr, and would be tasked with implementing any reforms needed to restore the department to its apolitical state. Politico and the Associated Press first reported Garland’s selection.
