As the political debate deepens over its ownership, TikTok Inc. faces a separate fight in court, as a federal judicial panel Tuesday coordinated nearly 20 privacy class actions against the Chinese-based media app.

On July 31, President Donald Trump, citing national security concerns, threatened to ban TikTok, owned by ByteDance in Beijing. But, on Monday, he encouraged Microsoft Corp., or another “very American” company, to purchase TikTok, which otherwise could face a shutdown in the United States by Sept. 15.
