We talked in this space the other week about how mergers appear to be dead for the rest of 2020 because of COVID-19. But that doesn’t mean firms are just standing still or laying people off. They are still hiring. There’s still lateral activity. It might be heavier in some regions than others (think California, particularly Silicon Valley), but it is happening.

The growth of firms in Florida was the subject of a story by Dylan Jackson for the Daily Business Review. In analyzing the numbers of the 100 largest firms in Florida, he found that the firms, on average, grew 4.9% in 2019. That was in stark contrast to 2018, when the firms contracted slightly.
