A few weeks ago in this column we talked about how Big Law’s rapid expansion into just about every major U.S. city has forced midsize and small firms in those markets to either find ways to differentiate themselves or allow themselves to be acquired by larger shops.
Sometimes, that second option is the more attractive one—other times, it’s the only one. But just because merging with a larger organization is the right move for your firm doesn’t mean it’s the right move for every attorney at your firm. For some, a brush with Big Law may only reinforce their belief that they belong at a smaller firm.
