Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Harold D. Melton has already said he will be leaving at the end of June and won’t be extending the Statewide Judicial Emergency he first declared in March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. On Tuesday, he made it clear that the remote court proceedings created during the pandemic can continue.

In a two-paragraph order, the court amended the rules to allow judges to continue using technology for remote hearings where they see fit—at least for the next year. Melton sent out an announcement and the order.
