After lawyers at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project secured the release of David Faulkner, a lead prosecutor on the case paid them the ultimate prosecutor-to-defense-lawyer compliment.

“My hat is off to them. They out-lawyered me,” special prosecutor Joseph Michael told a local newspaper reporter covering his office’s decision not to retry Faulkner, a Maryland man who served 21 years for a crime he maintains he didn’t commit.
