SAN FRANCISCO — Uber Technologies Inc. on Tuesday sought to wipe out a chunk of Waymo’s intellectual property case over self-driving car technology, as the two Silicon Valley rivals race to gear up for trial in October.

The move comes just a week after the company brought on board a team of eight additional lawyers from the Susman Godfrey firm, including New York-based trial attorney William Carmody, to fill out its already large trial team.
