It’s often said that law firms are in dire need of change when it comes to cybersecurity. But when organizations in every industry are getting hacked, why are lawyers so frequently targeted? Kenny Leckie, senior technology and change management consultant at Traveling Coaches, points to a quote from Joel Brenner’s “America the Vulnerable”: for hackers “lawyers are the perfect targets.”

Leckie gave the “How to Hack a Law Firm” discussion on Tuesday at the International Legal Technology Association’s 2017 ILTACON conference, where he laid out law firms’ areas of vulnerability and how to address them. As to why lawyers are the perfect target, he said it had much to do with their attitudes around security as well as the information they hold access to.
