How has the world changed in 40 years of legal technology? In 1977, securing client information consisted of putting a lock on file cabinets, not the proactive cybersecurity software of today. Discovery was rooms of document reviewers, not rooms of servers poring over documents. And the idea of formalized legal operations was years away, let alone the personal computers and other pieces of hardware that are so crucial to today’s legal organizations.
But the theme of the 40th ILTACON is looking forward by learning from the past. The first keynote focused on solving these forward-looking technical problems, with Intellectual Ventures Laboratory inventor and futurist Pablos Holman talking to the full auditorium crowd about what the future of the world, and law, may look like.
