Following President Donald Trump’s highly controversial executive orders barring travel for foreign nationals from select Muslim-majority countries, immigration attorneys have been working overtime to help provide legal services to those affected. A number of large-scale immigration raids in major cities like Los Angeles and Atlanta accompanied the executive orders, many of which have reportedly impacted those with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) status or even full U.S. citizenship, creating burdens for time-strapped immigration attorneys.
Technology has sprung up remarkably quickly to help affected individuals connect with legal support. In the six weeks since the first executive order was announced, ad hoc groups of attorneys , coders, nonprofit groups and technology startups have banded together to quickly develop platforms and tools that can help bring legal assistance to those impacted.
