In a Nov. 22 op-ed published by Legaltech News, Perkins Coie’s Geof Vance argued that law firms are the ideal “one-stop” provider for e-discovery services. Then in a Dec. 6 counterpoint article, Dan Meyers from TransPerfect Legal Solutions argued that external vendors are best equipped to handle e-discovery. We believe that there is room for both law firms and vendors in this market, and that clients are best served when they work together.

As in litigation generally, there is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to e-discovery. The best thing lawyers can do for their clients is to evaluate each e-discovery matter on a case-by-case basis to see whether it should be handled by the law firm, a vendor, or a combination of both.
