Recent alerts from Microsoft and the FBI warn of new ransomware, Samas attacks, that try to encrypt an entire network. Under this scheme, hackers break into a network, eliminate backups, and spread the infection.

“Samas is a little-known strain of ransomware that was first discovered in 2014,” Stu Sjouwerman, CEO of KnowBe4, told Legaltech News. “It’s professional-grade malware though, and cannot be cracked. You either need backups or you need to pay.”
