C-suite executives want a cybersecurity voice in the boardroom, but the chief information security officer (CISO) may not belong on the leadership team, says a recent survey from cybersecurity solutions company ThreatTrack Security. ThreatTrack Security reveals in its “CISO Role Still in Flux” whitepaper that CISOs have made moderate gains in commanding corporate respect, there still remains hurdles for them to overcome.
The survey of 200 C-suite level executives reveals that although 79 percent of respondents believe their board of directors already has or should have a cybersecurity expert, 75 percent also said that the CISO did not “deserve a seat at the table” nor should it “be part of an organization’s leadership team.” That represents a similar view to 2014, in which 74 percent of executives viewed CISOs the same way.
