The Sedona Conference, a nonprofit research and educational institute, has published online the third edition of “The Sedona Conference Cooperation Proclamation: Resources for the Judiciary.” Originally published in 2011, the proclamation is designed to provide state and federal judges a framework for managing civil cases involving the discovery of electronically stored information, Sedona’s Executive Director Kenneth Withers explains. Withers and consultant Ronald Hedges, a former U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge (N.J.), are senior editors of the project. The updated proclamation is available here.

“This latest edition builds on that framework, focusing on the stages of litigation from a judge’s perspective, starting with the preservation of ESI, though the initial case management order, the resolution of discovery disputes, trial, and post-judgment award of costs,” they note in a press release. “The discussions, tools, and references for each stage of litigation emphasize effective judicial case management by encouraging the parties to act in the spirit of [the proclamation].”
