We gathered at WeWork Seattle on Oct. 10 at 6 p.m.: designers, developers, business experts, law students and, yes, lawyers. The goal: conceive, build, and pitch a legal tech startup in 54 hours. That was the mission of the 40+ brave souls who showed up for a first-for-Seattle Legal Tech Startup Weekend.

Startup Weekend is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, launched in 2007. Participants pitch, form cross-functional teams, and build a prototype, demo, or presentation for a startup business—in 54-hours. Volunteers regularly organize Startup Weekend events around the world. More than 1,000 events have been held since the organization was founded in 2007. The teams and connections have lead to the founding of many companies, including Seattle-based pet company Rover.com.
