Amendments to the California state bar’s annual fee license bill would place new restrictions on the lawyer-regulating agency’s plans to create a paraprofessional practice program and a so-called regulatory sandbox, according to language made public Thursday.
The changes to AB 2958 would prohibit the state bar from spending any money, regardless of the source, on programs that “propose any abrogation of” laws against the unauthorized practice of law. The amendments also forbid any new programs that would allow corporate ownership of law firms and fee-splitting with nonlawyers.
