After decades of attempts—and failures—at passing a comprehensive federal data privacy bill, Congress released a bipartisan draft proposal on June 3.
If it passes, the “American Data Privacy and Protection Act” would provide a national mandate for data privacy and consumer protections, and possibly bridge the growing gap between the sprawling patchwork of state-by-state data privacy legislation. While cautious, some attorneys are saying that, this time around, the bill shows promise of making it across the finish line.
