For U.K.-based estate planning software provider Arken, the pivot to remote working during the pandemic was the impetus to try out another novel idea: implementing a four-day workweek. But while most can’t deny the allure of a three-day weekend, some legal tech and service providers said limited availability isn’t feasible for meeting clients’ around-the-clock demands.

In October 2020, Arken switched to a four-day workweek where approximatively 20 of its 22 employees would have off on Fridays. (Two help support staffers would work Fridays and have off on Mondays.) However, adjusting to the shortened workweek took time and effort, noted Arken CEO Dave Newick.
